one fight contract

At first glance, RJ Richter
may be the last guy you’d expect to find in the fast-growing world of mixed martial arts. The 25-year-old loving husband spends Saturdays walking his golden retriever and Sundays at the Mormon Church, followed by large family gatherings.

Wednesday nights are for leading a Boy Scout troop. Fridays he has dinner dates with his wife, Sherrelle. In between those commitments and his full-time job as a construction superintendent, he fights.

A year ago he was just another young guy, watching the bouts on pay-per-view. Hundreds of hours of training later, he entered the ring in late October 2007 for his first amateur fight.

Held in a warehouse in an industrial section north of Los Angeles, it was far from the bright lights off the UFC. But in his debut, Richter dominated the nine-minute fight. “It was a great experience,” he said. “And I got a little cut to remember it by.”
