four bullets later

When Tom Urbanski was shot multiple times and paralyzed while working as a bouncer at Minxx strip club in Las Vegas on the early morning of February 19, 2007, his life, and the life of those closest to him, changed forever.

His wife, Kathy, has remained by his side through six months of surgeries and rehabilitation at Craig Hospital in Denver, Colo., and now as they struggle to learn a new, and drastically different life together back home in Las Vegas. Navigating an unknown world of worker’s compensation claims, temporary housing, and constant medical needs, Tom and Kathy are dealing with their new reality very differently. The strains are taking a toll on their marriage, and Kathy, as she balances returning to work as a second-grade teacher and being a partner and care-giver to Tom.

This is an on-going project. I continue to follow Kathy and Tom’s life, as of May 2008.
